An alumnus of St. John’s Seminary, Fr. Hutton assisted in pastoral work at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Burbank and Holy Family Church in South Pasadena. This work included involvement in the RCIA, the Conference for Community and Justice, InterSem, Chaplain at Bellarmine-Jefferson High School and the Associate Director of IPSF (1988). His doctoral dissertation is titled "Apologist, Publisher, and Pastor: The Contribution of John F. Noll to American Catholic Life." Fr. Hutton is a member of the American Catholic Historical Association, Pasadena Historical Society, and the Ventura County Historical Society.
