Spiritual Formation

The Spiritual Formation program has as its goal the establishment of attitudes, habits, and practices in the spiritual life which will continue after ordination. In pursuit of this goal the program highlights the life of pastoral charity through humble service to all, active participation in the liturgy, faithful meditation on the Word and faithful prayer, all of which are characteristic of the spirituality of the diocesan priest.

The Spiritual Formation Team, meeting twice weekly, and the Spiritual Life Committee, meeting monthly, plan monthly days of recollection, the annual retreat and retreats in preparation for the Sacrament of Orders, and a spiritual orientation for men new to the seminary. In addition they encourage and support the formation of prayer/faith-sharing groups and assist in developing prayer experiences and devotions characteristic of the multicultural composition of the seminary community.

Each student has an approved priest spiritual director to companion him in his personal relationship with the Lord. In order to help expand and solidify habits and practices in the spiritual life, all students participate in a six-week intensive period of spiritual formation (IPSF), usually after the first year of theological studies.
